Dear Students:
Within the next couple of days, award letters will begin to go out for the 2011-2012 academic year. We are sending them out as they are being awarded, so they will all be distributed within the next few weeks. They are all going to your campus mailbox. There are quite a few of you who have not yet done your FAFSA – we cannot make awards without the FAFSA, so if you have not done yours for the 2011-2012 academic year, you may not get your award in time for the July quarter.
It is urgent that you pay close attention to your award letter. This year, there is an additional step you will be required to take in order to receive your funding. You will be required to accept your award by filling out the form that will be attached to your award letter. The form is entitled “Doctor of Chiropractic Degree Loan Request Form (Required).” On the front, fill it out with the desired loan amounts. If you want the maximum available, just write in “Max.”  On the back is an optional worksheet if you wish to figure out your budget and borrow accordingly and conservatively.
Once again, this form must be returned to the financial aid office within 7 days of receipt of your award letter. Funds will not be disbursed until this form is received.

This year, the Federal Government provided funds for us to award Perkins loans. Perkins loans are awarded based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA and the FAFSA filing date. Those with a zero EFC and earliest FAFSA filing date have priority to receive a Perkins Loan. This loan is part of your financial aid package, and cannot exceed your budget.
If you have been awarded the Perkins Loan, there is additional paperwork you must do in order to receive the Perkins funds. Two of these papers will be attached to your award letter – the Federal Perkins Loan Information Sheet and the Federal Perkins Loan Master Promissory Note. In addition, you must do a separate Perkins Entrance Counseling located on www.mappingyourfuture.org. After you complete the entrance counseling, print the confirmation page and return it, along with the other documents, to the financial aid office.
If you have any questions, please contact either me or Tina Walden. We will both be dedicating our time trying to get these award letters out in the most timely fashion possible, so, for the next couple of weeks, we are limiting walk-ins and phone calls to the financial aid office to 8:00 am to 2:00 pm so that we may complete the awarding process.

General Information

Palmer introduces Locus system for practice location assistance
Locus is one of the new tools provided by the Palmer Center for Business Development. You may access it through the Palmer portal under “Business Development.” This sophisticated demographic analysis program is dedicated to helping chiropractic students and alumni find potential practice sites. It uses a concise system of analyzing United States counties and zip codes using the science of demographics.
According to information from Locus, approximately 30 to 35 percent of post-associate doctors of chiropractic, along with 15 percent of the currently graduating group—for a total of about 50 percent—will be seeking a chiropractic practice location. This requires new graduates to seek the highest potential practice site. Modern marketing tools are now at your fingertips to find the best locations for your future practice. Chiropractic-centric demographics provide the most effective tool for you to use in your search. Palmer College is dedicated to continual enhancement of our practice development program, and we believe you will find this new tool very useful as you plan for practice success after graduation.
